At Africans for Mental Health (AFMH), our mission is to break the stigma of mental illness in the African global community by equipping and empowering individuals with practical skills and resources to support each other.
Our training programs provide participants with confidence, compassion, and care to effectively respond to mental health and suicide concerns.

QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a nationally recognized suicide prevention training designed to teach individuals how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
By the end of the training, 120 participants will be certified as QPR Gatekeepers, equipped with the skills to potentially save a life in North Texas.
This training is ideal for caregivers (family, siblings, and friends), educators, co-workers, community leaders, health and behavioral health professionals interested in being a AFMH Suicide Prevention Ally in their community. Open to all over 18 years old.
Format: In-Person 2-Hour, Instructor-Led, Interactive Training. Select a Morning or Afternoon Training Session. Each session has a class size of 30 participants.

This evidence-based training teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adults.
Our goal is to train 210 participants will receive a 3-year Mental Health First Aider certification upon completion.

NOTE: At least 80% of the cohort must complete their prework for the training to proceed. With a cohort size of 30, this means at least 24 participants need to complete their prework by designated deadline. If the minimum completion rate is not achieved, the training will be canceled or rescheduled.

Mental Health First Aid® for Youth equips you with the skills to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth ages 12 to 18. Upon completion, 40 participants receive a 3-year certification.
